Damp or Dust

Common situation

Condensation on the windows every morning: what to check first

Water running down several windows most mornings is one of the most common signs of moist indoor air meeting cold glass. It's worth sorting out, but it isn't automatically a reason to buy a machine.

What it usually points to

Morning condensation points to a cold surface, moist air, or both. Without a humidity reading we can't tell how damp the whole home is.

What to check and try first

  1. Wipe condensation each morning and keep internal doors open during the day.
  2. Each morning, open the windows wide for a few minutes, then close them. In cold weather this swaps damp indoor air for drier air.

These steps assume only: condensation on windows in the morning; condensation on several or most windows. Your home may be different. Add what else is going on and you'll get steps for your situation.

What would change this

If damp keeps coming back in the same place, water is getting in, or mould grows past a dinner plate or onto a second wall, the cause needs investigating, not a machine. If it still feels heavy after two weeks of these steps, measure the humidity.
